WESTPORT — “Rainbow in the Dark,” an exhibition of work by German contemporary artist Anselm Reyle, will be featured this spring at MoCA Westport.

An opening reception is planned at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the museum, 19 Newtown Turnpike.

General admission tickets cost $10, and can be reserved by clicking here. No charge for MoCA members.

“Rainbow in the Dark,” which runs through May 28, showcases Reyle’s abstract sculptures and paintings, which feature fluorescent colors, recycled objects and reflective materials such as foil, glitter and mirrors.

The “Rainbow in the Dark” exhibit of Anselm Reyle’s work includes, at left, an untitled print in a black frame, and right, “Straw Bales,” composed of found objects, chrome lacquer and acrylic glass.

Reyle’s art is closely tied to Modernism, according to a publicity release for the exhibition, and is recognized for “his foil and strip paintings and his sculptures. Remnants of consumer society, discarded materials, symbols of urbanity and industrial change play a central role in his works.”

The exhibition title, “Rainbow in the Dark,” refers to Reyle’s neon installation works in dark environments and composed of fragments or leftover neon tubes from industrial and urban spaces, according to Emann Odufu, the curator.

“Anselm Reyle’s neon installations, which have not been shown in the U.S. for some years, can be thought of as similar to a Moonbow — a special, rare, and beautiful event created through a set of conditions and building moments,” Odufu said in the event publicity release.
