Candace Bushell appears next week at the Westport Country Playhouse

WESTPORT–Candace Bushnell brings her hit off-Broadway show “True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex and the City” to the Westport Country Playhouse July 9 at 8 p.m. The show offers the audience a glimpse into the world of fashion, writing and sex in 1990’s New York City.

Bushnell, an international best-selling author, is said to be the inspiration for Carrie Bradshaw in the show “Sex and the City.” Carrie is modeled after her column for the New York Observer, published between 1994 and 1996, documenting tales of relationships and life in the Big Apple.

Following a breakup from her very own “Mr. Big” in 1996, Bushnell’s book “Sex and the City” was published. The novel inspired the hit HBO TV show, “Sex and the City”, two movies and, most recently, the reboot series “And Just Like That.”

“One minute Candace Bushnell is dropping gossip tastier than the first Cosmo of the night, next she’s tossing scrunchies into the audience with gay abandon. She appears as comfortable on stage as she does in a pair of Manolo’s and the audience easily warms to her easy going style,” Theatre Weekly wrote in a 2024 review of the show.

Bushnell’s other literary works include “Lipstick Jungle”, “One Fifth Avenue” and “Trading Up.”

Tickets are $65, $75 and $80.
