WESTPORT — MoCA\CT invites the community to join a discussion this weekend on the ideas behind the monumental works featured in Rick Shaefer’s Colossi exhibition.
The event will run from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24th. The discussion will be moderated by MoCA\CT Executive Director Robin Jaffee Frank and feature Shaefer, Avon Theatre Executive Director Peter H. Gistelinck, and Rick Bell, head of the Center for Buildings, Infrastructure and Public Space at Columbia University and former assistant commissioner of the New York City Department of Design and Construction.
The community conversation is centered around Shaefer’s large-scale charcoal drawings, which imagine an enormous structure that gradually comes to encircle the whole globe as nations add their own segment. The works include themes of “history, ambition, preservation, infrastructure, and the human impulse to build boundaries.”
Colossi is one of three exhibitions included in MoCA\CT’s “Looking for History” theme. The exhibition will be on view through Nov. 15th, along with Michael Borders’ Connecticut Industry.
The community conversation is free due to sponsorship from The CORA Foundation. For more information, click here.
