WESTPORT — Mixed-media boxes by Deb Robicheau are featured in the “artist of the month” showcase during May at the Westport Book Shop.

The display, described as “a variety of sculptural mixed-media boxes” from Robicheau’s “Tiny Boxes” series,” will be exhibited through May 31 during regular business hours at the store, 23 Jesup Road.

The boxes incorporate comic book art from the 1930s through the 1980s.

“Once the pandemic hit, I decided to sacrifice to the art and cut them up, to illustrate that value could be transferred into what was important in the current world,” Robicheau said in a publicity release for the display.

“The images and words were used to illustrate what we were going through in each of our sequestered spaces. We were all in the same storm, but not all in the same boat,” the Westport artist added. “We had the challenge to fit our joy and sorrows and love and loss and life and death into smaller and smaller spaces to try and stay safe.”

A visual artist, sculptor, painter, writer and screenwriter, Robicheau is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles.
