NORWALK – The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is opening a new exhibition this week, celebrating the holiday season and seasonal traditions from the 19th century to today.
“Enchanting Lights & Toys: Illuminating the Holiday Season at the Mansion” will open on Friday, Nov. 28. It will be on view through Jan. 18.
The exhibition incudes historic Christmas tree displays, tracing their evolution from the use of candles for decoration to electrification in the 1880s and the technological developments that have allowed for intricate displays in the 21st century. The exhibition also includes a 19th century holiday vignette with features that include a sled with ponies, a festive holiday dinner party, and beautiful gowns.
“Enchanting Lights & Toys” is curated by Museum Consultant Stacey Danielson and the museum’s curatorial committee, which is chaired by Trustee Patsy Brescia. The displays were developed with Stamford-based interior designer Victoria Vandamm of Vandamm Interiors and Norwalk-based floral designer Danna DiElsi of The Silk Touch.
