WESTPORT —  “Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR.” makes a splash this week as the Saugatuck Theater Club plunges under the sea and brings the frothy musical to the Saugatuck Elementary School stage.

The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, and at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the school, 177 Riverside Ave.

Tickets, on sale now, can be reserved online by clicking here.

Based on a Hans Christian Andersen story, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR.” is “an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance,” according to a publicity release for the production.

The show, the fifth musical produced by the Saugatuck Theater Club, is being staged by a cast and crew of 125 students in third through fifth grades. In addition to acting, singing and dancing, the students also operate the stage lighting, sound and special effects, help construct and decorate sets, and prepare props.

The Saugatuck Theater Club’s planned production of the “Little Mermaid” in 2020 was unexpectedly canceled at the final dress rehearsal by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. But STC 2020 alumni and some of their parents have returned to assist with this year’s production.

Advisors guiding the student troupe include: Katie Bloom, director; Roshawn Lawrence, producer; Sari Reid, choreographer; Colleen Cooney, musical director; Peter von Euler, technical director; Julie Colotti, set designer; Miriam Young, costume designer; Alexandra Dodwell and Amy Kopisz, prop managers, and John Nunziato, artistic designer/special effects consultant.
