RIDGEFIELD – The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum will welcome artist Larissa Bates for her first solo museum exhibition next month.
Larissa Bates: Motherland / La Madre Patria will be on view between January 15th and May 25th. Bates will debut three paintings in gouache, egg tempera, and acrylic ink.
Bates’ work features energetic compositions that explore her bicultural upbringing, which was split between Costa Rica and rural Vermont. Incorporating both autobiographical narratives featuring family members and surrealistic figures, her works also create scenes with detailed decorations and plant life.
The exhibition is part of Aldrich Projects, a quarterly series at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum featuring a focused body of work by a single artist.
