STAMFORD — The Mayor’s Gallery will host a special event for a new curated exhibition tonight, combining an artists’ reception with a dance performance.

Turning Points: A Curated Collection is on view at the Stamford gallery through Aug. 28th. Tonight’s event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and feature American ballroom dance by Jyoti Desai and Elmar Schmidt, followed by Argentine tango by Desai and Gem Duras.

Turning Points features Desai’s artwork, which is defined by “a more intuitive and organic approach to abstraction.” The gallery says her lifelong passion for dance has directly informed her paintings, including “sweeping gestures, shifts in tempo, and moments of pause [that] echo the movements of the body in motion.”

The exhibition is one of six hosted annually at The Mayor’s Gallery, which is provided by the city of Stamford to allow area artists to showcase their work.
