WESTPORT–A Newtown woman and former business associate of Dr. David Beck–who had power of attorney for the doctor and his estate–has been charged with improperly siphoning off $300,000 from him after a years-long investigation, police said.

With a warrant issued for her arrest in the matter, Laura King, 75, turned herself in at Westport police headquarters yesterday, police said.

An attorney and court-appointed conservator for Dr. Beck’s estate filed a formal complaint with Westport police on Oct. 29, 2021, alleging impropriety.

“Through an extensive investigation and the review and audit of numerous financial records, it is alleged that Laura King authorized expenditures as well as credit and identity usage exceeding $300,000 that were made in her and her family’s self-interests, and not to the benefit of Dr. Beck,” police said in a release.

The probe involved investigating various financial transactions over an extended period, which had to be sorted and examined, police said. The department collaborated with the Chief State’s Attorney’s office on the case, resulting in an arrest warrant signed by a judge on Jan. 20, 2026, police said.

King was charged with first-degree larceny, first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, and first-degree identity theft, all felonies. She was released on $25,000 bond and is due in Superior Court in Stamford on May 26, court records show.
