
Ourania H. (Helmis) “Nitsa” Tsorvas, 87, of Bedford, New Hampshire, formerly of Manchester, New Hampshire, passed away at the Arbors of Bedford on September 1, 2025.
She was born in Brockton, MA on April 17, 1938, the daughter of the late Ernest and Antigone (Economedes) Helmis. She was a long-time resident of Westport before moving to NH several years ago to be with her family. She was the widow of Cleanthes Tsorvas and was predeceased by a son, Stephen Tsorvas.
As a young woman, Nitsa worked at Expo 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium. She was a graduate of Boston University and received a master’s degree from the University of Bridgeport, where her master’s thesis was on the history of the Greeks in Bridgeport, CT. She enjoyed history and genealogy and was a very accomplished linguist, fluent in English, Greek, French, and German. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church where she volunteered at church festivals. She was also very active in the Greek community in Bridgeport. She had a business selling trinkets with her next-door neighbor and dear friend Marie Coppotelli.
Family members include her son, Ernie Tsorvas and his wife Molly of Naperville, Illinois; her daughter, Anna Maria Tsorvas; five grandchildren, Christiana Pike, Bridgette Pike, Nicholas Tsorvas, Alexandra Tsorvas, and Audrey Gilbert; and two great grandchildren, Wyatt Tingley and Grant Tingley; and a daughter in law, Adriana Ugas Tsorvas of Milford, Connecticut.
A calling hour will take place at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon followed by a funeral service at noon. Burial will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at Willow Brook Cemetery, Westport, CT where she will be interred with her late husband and son. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nitsa’s memory to St. Nicholas Church prayer garden. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
