TRUMBULL — The Staples High girls tennis team rebounded after a hard-fought 4-3 setback to Darien on Wednesday with a 7-0 victory at Trumbull the next day.
In the loss to Darien, the Wreckers swept in doubles play — Rhiya Anand and Tatum Keefe at first doubles, Lola Lamensdorf and Amelia Berkowitz at second and Isabel Alfageme and Aanya Gandhi at third.
After losing the top three singles matches, the score was 3-3 and Staples’ No 4 player Maddie Hendley gave it her best shot, but eventually fell to Darien’s Scarlet O’Malley.
Despite the outcome, the Wreckers walked away with their heads held high having played competitively against a strong FCIAC foe.
In the victory over Trumbull, a highlight was No. 3 singles player Sadie Yanks winning against Trumbull’s Ria Beri, 7-5, 6-4.
The Wreckers are back in action at 4 p.m. Monday at Danbury. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
