WESTPORT — Fans of the UConn women’s basketball team will have a rare opportunity Wednesday to give a hometown welcome to Geno Auriemma, the Huskies Hall of Fame coach, and several of his players.
They will be featured guests at a benefit for Bleeding Blue for Good, set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Mitchells, 670 Post Road East. Bleeding Blue for Good “provides name, image and likeness opportunities for UConn student-athletes that help them make a difference,” according to the group’s website.
Auriemma, accompanied by players Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, are expected to attend.
Tickets to the event are $100 each; up to two children 12 and under can accompany each adult. Light appetizers, wine and beer will be served. Tickets can be reserved online here.
Bleeding Blue for Good “exists to empower UConn student-athletes to become champions in their sport and champions in their communities,” the group says on its website. Name, image and likeness, or NIL, “collectives … seek donations from boosters, alumni and fans and then arrange opportunities for athletes to be paid for endorsements, public appearances, autograph-signing and posting branded content to their personal social media channels,” according to the Associated Press.
The UConn Women’s basketball team won the Big East regular season championship and is playing in the Big East Conference final. The team is ranked No. 1 in the conference and will play Georgetown (No. 6) at Uncasville at 7 p.m. Monday.
The game will be shown on FS1, channel 85 on Optimum in Fairfield County and on channel 652 on Frontier.
