WESTPORT — The death of a 56-year-old woman, whose body was found at the bottom of a staircase in the basement of her Oak Ridge Park home last month, has been ruled an accident.

The Office of the State’s Chief Medical Examiner on Monday reported the Aug. 17 death of Jennifer Lindstrom was caused by a “blunt impact injury to the head,” and the manner of death was “accidental.”

The medical examiner’s findings confirm an early assessment by the police investigation that evidence “thus far does not support anything other than an accident,” police spokesman Lt. Eric Woods said at the time. The incident initially was investigated as an “untimely death.”

Lindstrom, a mother of two who lived alone at 3 Oak Ridge Park, was found “unresponsive” at the bottom of a staircase leading to the basement by a housekeeper who arrived at the residence about 11 a.m. Aug., 17, police said.

Discovery of Lindstrom’s body prompted an hours-long investigation at the scene by Westport police, assisted by the State Police Western District Major Crime Squad.

Lindstrom had been involved in several incidents over the last few years that prompted police action.

Most recently, she was charged with third-degree assault for allegedly biting a person during a disturbance in the Walgreen’s parking lot on Post Road East last December.
