WESTPORT — A combination of lights-out pitching and power hitting lifted the Staples High baseball team to wins over Bridgeport Central and Norwalk over the last week.
The Wreckers blasted host Central 14-2 on Monday, and followed up a 3-0 setback on the road to St. Joseph of Trumbull on Wednesday, with a 9-0 blanking of visiting Norwalk on Thursday.
In the win over Central, Taylor Brundige homered and Kai Nee, Colin Menninger and Chris Zajac all ripped doubles. Brundige, Nee, Menninger and Andrew Oppenheimer all knocked in multiple runs.

Staples had eight hits and capitalized on seven Central errors.
Against Norwalk, Hiro Wyatt continued his stellar pitching with a one-hitter. He notched 17 strikeouts.
At the plate, Wyatt homered and drove in three. The Wreckers put up three spots in each of the second, third and sixth innings. Holden Caney doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Ethan Cukier homered and also drove in two.
The Wreckers close out the regular season with a home game at 4:30 p.m. Monday versus Brien McMahon and a visit to Fairfield Ludlowe at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Then it is time for the FCIAC and state playoffs.
