NEW CANAAN — Adam Udell broke a tie with just two seconds left, propelling the Staples High boys lacrosse team to a dramatic 6-5 win at New Canaan on Thursday.

Udell finished with a goal and an assist.

In a game dominated by defense, Tristan Schaefer made finding the back of the net look easy, notching four of the Wreckers’ tallies to go along with one assist.

Mike Nealon recorded a goal and an assist and Tyler Clark had one assist.

Jay Anastasi and Cisco Celotto combined to go 8 for 15 (53 percent) against New Canaan’s All-FCIAC faceoff players.

Goaltender Scott Kosakowski needed to make five saves and got the job done for another Staples win.

The team’s defense and goaltending have held its last four opponents to five goals or fewer.
