In the 4th Congressional District contest Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, Democrat, was handily re-elected, defeating Republican Jayme Stevenson. 

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Himes easily won an eighth term representing the 4th Congressional District, beating Republican Jayme Stevenson in Tuesday’s midterm election.

Himes rolled up roughly 59 percent of the vote, or 133,556 votes, to Stevenson’s 41 percent districtwide, with nearly 93,000 votes, according to unofficial results. Stevenson’s name appeared on the Independent Party’s line on the ballot in addition to the Republican line.

In Westport, voters backed Himes by a wider percentage, with the Democratic incumbent tallying 8,762 votes, or roughly 70 percent.

Stevenson, a former first selectwoman of Darien, tallied a total of 3,645 votes, or nearly 30 percent.
