WESTPORT — The Staples High football team used a balance offensive attack to double up visiting Danbury 42-21 on Friday night. Staples improved to 4-1.

Junior quarterback Caleb Smith ran for a pair of touchdowns and junior Alex Fiala rushed for two more. James Hillhouse and Leo Sequenzia caught touchdown passes to round out the scoring. Staples opened the game with a drive that consumed seven and a half minutes of the clock and set the early tone.

The Wreckers’ defense held the Hatters scoreless in the first half, during which it came away with a pair of interceptions.

Danbury opened the second half with a kick return for a TD but the Staples offense was too much to overcome. The Wreckers have piled up 36 or more points in each of their victories.

Up next for the Wreckers is a Saturday, Oct. 22 visit to Stamford at 1 p.m. Norwalk visits on Friday, Oct. 28, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
