A service for Monica Wilson, the 41-year-old Westport mother of three young sons who suffered fatal injuries in a wrong-way crash Sunday, is planned Friday.
Wilson, who died a day before her 42nd birthday, was driving south on Route 8 in Bridgeport about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, when her car was struck head-on by a van driving north in the southbound lanes, according to State Police.
Two of her sons, ages 7 and 8, were passengers in the car and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the police report.
A passenger in the wrong-way van also died in crash, and the van driver was hospitalized in critical condition.
The drivers of two other vehicles involved in a chain-reaction collision caused by the wrong-way driver also were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Wilson had worked at the Broad River Animal Hospital in Norwalk for more than 18 years. The veterinary center was closed Monday while fellow employees grieved her death.
The animal hospital’s Facebook page has featured several postings about Wilson, with dozens of comments from customers and colleagues, expressing shock at her death and mourning her loss.
The hospital’s latest Facebook post reads: “The outpouring love and support we’ve received has truly touched us all. It is clear that Monica was a beautiful soul, was loved, and will be dearly missed by all whose lives she’s touched. We are crushed, but we are grateful.”
