WESTPORT — A smoky fire in the kitchen of a Whitney Street house was quickly extinguished by firefighters early Tuesday.
The Fire Department received an alarm shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, with units dispatched to Whitney Street from different sections of town where they were responding to calls related to the overnight storm, according to the report by Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, occupants of the house already had exited safely.
Heavy smoke filled the home’s first and second floors, but firefighters quickly located the source of the blaze in the kitchen wall and ceiling.
Fire crews, after opening ceiling spaces, doused the flames using a hose.
Two dogs in the house were led to safety by firefighters.
There were no injuries reported by firefighters or occupants of the house.
Cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
