WESTPORT — A Norwalk woman has been charged with driving drunk last October after her car crashed into a Riverside Avenue utility pole, causing “extensive damage,” police said.

Rebecca Robinson, 27, was charged last week with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane.

The incident occurred last Oct. 21, just before 9 p.m., when police were dispatched to investigate the report of an accident near 155 Riverside Ave.

Officers arriving at the scene found a car driven by Robinson had run into a utility pole, causing significant damage to both the pole and the vehicle, police said.

A “strong smell’ of alcohol was evident on Robinson’s breath, and her eyes “were glassy as well as bloodshot,” according to the report.

Robinson suffered “minor injuries” in the crash, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators applied for a search warrant to obtain the toxicology report from Robinson’s hospital records, and found that her blood-alcohol level exceeded the legal limit at the time of the accident, according to the police report.

A warrant for Robinson’s arrest was issued, and she turned herself in March 16 at Police Department headquarters.

She was released after posting a $500 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges March 28 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
