WESTPORT — Overnight snow has changed to rain early this morning, as a windy winter storm has caused local power outages and threatens flooding along low-lying coastal areas later Monday morning.

Westport and the rest of southwestern Connecticut remain under a series of “Hazardous Weather” alerts from the National Weather Service as of 5 a.m. Monday.

A “Wind Advisory” is in effect through 8 a.m., while a “Coastal Flood Advisory” is in place until 1 p.m., according to the NWS.

As of 5 a.m. Eversource reports there are 109 power outages among its 12,678 customers in Westport.

Temperatures, however, have risen from frigid single digits over the weekend to nearly 40 degrees early this morning, where readings are expected to remain most of the day.

The threat of coastal flooding appears to be the most serious weather hazard this morning, with a tidal surge driven by rain and winds expected as high tide approaches about 10:30 a.m.

Rain is expected to continue through midday, with a chance of snow showers this afternoon, according to the weather service forecast.

Breezy conditions will prevail most of the day, with a southeast wind 16 to 20 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph, the NWS says.
