WESTPORT — Flames engulfing a shed on Plover Lane Sunday morning were extinguished by firefighters as the fire began spreading to two nearby houses.

The blaze was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Four engines, a ladder truck and the shift commander initially were dispatched on the call.

Fire crews arriving at the scene reported a shed was “fully involved” in flames, and was located about 10 feet from two homes, according to the report by Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen.

Firefighters checked both dwellings to make sure residents were safe and to guard against flames spreading to the homes’ interiors.

After halting the fire’s spread, firefighters were able to confine the flames to the shed and the homes’ exteriors before extinguishing the blaze completely.

There were no injuries to any of the homes’ occupants or to firefighters, according to the report.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
