Carolyn G. Landis – Contributed photo

Carolyn G. Landis, whose days were always full of activity, a good book, and time with the people she loved, passed away on Oct. 16, 2026, at the age of 87. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, she lived life with boundless energy, an inquisitive mind, and a deep appreciation for family, friendship, and learning.

Carolyn’s 67-year marriage to her beloved husband, Alan, began with a meeting aboard the Wolverine Express—a train ride that set the course for a lifetime together. Over nearly seven decades, they built a life filled with family, enduring friendships, and countless memories.

A graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, Carolyn earned her degree in zoology from Barnard College. She put her love of science to work teaching in the New York City public schools and, after moving to Connecticut, continued her professional career in technical science writing. Her curiosity and love of learning remained with her throughout her life.

A voracious reader and enthusiastic patron of her local library, Carolyn was always ready for her next book. But reading was only one part of a life defined by activity and engagement. She played tennis for many years and remained committed to staying physically active as she grew older. In later life, water aerobics became a daily ritual and a source of both exercise and friendship. She attended classes at the YMCA every day, maintaining her routine and connection to her community right up until her final day. Her energy, consistency, and determination were remarkable, and she continued to embrace life on her own terms.

Above all, Carolyn treasured her family and friends. She was happiest staying connected to the people she loved, nurturing friendships, and remaining involved in the world around her.

Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Alan; her son Eric and daughter-in-law Johanna of Rye, New Hampshire; her son Mark and daughter-in-law Deb of New York, New York; and her four grandchildren, Beau (Katie Sweeney) and Aaron, and Justin (Maddie) and William (Emily).

Carolyn will be remembered for her lively mind, remarkable energy, determination, and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. She was a woman who never stopped learning, never stopped moving, and never stopped making time for the people and activities that brought her joy. Her life was full, active, and deeply connected to those she loved, and she will be greatly missed.
