Carol Ann Porter (née Polizzi), of Westport, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Bridgeport, following a brief hospitalization. She was 90.

Carol was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 16, 1936, to John Peter Polizzi and Frances Polizzi (née Infante), the younger sister to Rosalie Puglia (née Polizzi).

She began her career as an art director at Seventeen magazine in the early 1960s, where she met Raymond Porter, a photographer. They married in May 1964. Both were passionate about food, and their courtship unfolded across the restaurants of 1960s Manhattan, working their way through one new cuisine after another — a shared appetite that never ended.

Their son, John Raymond, was born on January 1, 1969. In 1972, Carol, Raymond, and John left the Upper West Side for Westport, Connecticut, where they made their lasting home.

After Seventeen, Carol worked at Cosmopolitan, before joining a fledgling fashion catalog called Brownstone Studio in 1973. As Vice President and Creative Director, she led its creative department until her retirement in 1996. Brownstone photographed in locations around the world, and this took Carol (along with Raymond) to such faraway places as Spain, Greece, Portugal, Mallorca, Italy, Jamaica, and the Caribbean. They came away with many incredible memories and stories.

Throughout their lives in Westport, Carol and Raymond, along with three other couples, hosted a long-running series of culinary salons, each devoted to a single cuisine. They called themselves Huit Cochons — the Eight Pigs — a name that sums up the spirit of each event. Every meal was joyful and generous, with as much pleasure taken in the making as in the eating.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, in 2010. She is survived by her loving son, John; her nieces Joan Puglia, Susan Puglia Alduino, Lauren Puglia Rosenstrach, and Megan Jann; nephew Nicholas Jann; many grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and her beloved cat, Chloe.

In accordance with her wishes, Carol has been cremated, and no immediate services will be held. A memorial and celebration of her life is being planned for the spring of 2027 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, where she will be laid to rest beside Raymond in the Memorial Garden.
