WESTPORT–Staples girls tennis improved to 8-1 with three victories last week. The Wreckers went to Wilton and won 6-1 on April 20, hosted and beat Fairfield Warde 7-0 the next day, then defeated visiting Fairfield Ludlowe 5-2 on April 23.

In the win over Wilton, top singles player Olivia Lazar won 6-0, 6-0, No. 2 Amelia Berkowitz won 6-1, 6-0, No. 3 Adrianna Gavriloiu came out on top 6-0, 6-0, and No. 4 Kat Siegner won 7-6, 6-3. In doubles play, the No. 2 team of Isabel Alfageme and Azita Vazhayil won 6-2, 6-4 and No. 3 Raleigh Sipkin and Emme Steinberg battled back to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. 

In the 7-0 triumph over Warde, Lazar, Berkowitz, Gavriloiu and Hunter Rossetter all won in two sets, each surrendering no more than two points. In doubles play, No. 1 Vazhayil and Aanya Gandhi, No. 2 Rachel Guzman and Steinberg, and No. 3 Devyn Peffer and Siegner all won in two, each allowing no more than one point.

In the Ludlowe match, No. 2 Berkowitz won 6-3, 6-2, No. 3 Gavriloiu came out on top 6-7, 6-0, 6-3 and No. 4 Rossetter won 6-1, 6-2. The No. 2 tandem of Vazhayil and Gandhi won 6-4, 6-3 and the No. 3 duo of Steinberg and Siegner won 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 (match tiebreaker). Staples hosts Bridgeport Central today at 4 and visits Trumbull Tuesday at 4.
