WESTPORT — In field hockey, it’s not uncommon for a goal or two to be enough to win a game.
But not when you’re facing Staples High.
The Wreckers, who this season have made it a habit of racking up 10 or 11 goals per game, despite easing up on opponents in the process, did it again this week.
Staples followed up its second 10-0 win of the season, a victory at Westhill of Stamford on Monday, with its second 11-1 triumph over visiting New Canaan on Wednesday.
Staples improved to 6-0 and has scored no fewer than eight goals in any of those lopsided victories.
Against New Canaan, Emilie Russell had a hat-trick plus one, scoring four times. Sofia Fidalgo and Lucy Hill each netted two goals. Tyla Ozgen, Storey Ahl, Oakley Wilson, Alex Hackett, Emma Larit, Leah Larit and Daisy Hackett all contributed to the barrage with goals and/ or assists.
Against Westhill, Fidalgo scored three times. Hackett, Leah Larit, Emma Larit, Oakley Wilson, Ahl, Ozgen and Russell all scored. Evelyn Dolan assisted on two goals and Fidalgo and Hackett also had assists.
The Wreckers head to the Proving Grounds in Pennsylvania for the MAX Field Hockey High School National Invitational this weekend. They will face Palmyra Area Senior High School from Pennsylvania and Camden Catholic High School from New Jersey.
Staples gets back to FCIAC action next Tuesday, with a 4 p.m. visit to Fairfield Warde. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
