WESTPORT–Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (WVEMS) is accepting registrations for its Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, which begins September 9th.

Led by veteran instructors, the EMT course provides students with essential life-saving skills, covering topics from basic bandaging, to childbirth, to multi-system trauma care. This hands-on, in-person class ensures students are fully equipped to respond effectively to emergencies as part of an EMS team in the future.

“Students from this past fall and spring classes are already volunteering on our ambulances with the strong skillset learned from our instructors and volunteers,” says WVEMS President Jaime Bairaktaris. “I’m proud that our EMTs are trained to a level that our family, friends, and neighbors deserve if they ever need an ambulance.”

Students from diverse backgrounds, with or without prior experience, and from all over Fairfield County, join our classes to learn how to save a life and one day volunteer alongside Westport’s steadfast team of EMS volunteers.

WVEMS is also offering an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course in September, designed for high school students ages 14-15 who have a passion to help others. This program introduces freshmen and sophomores to teamwork and foundational life-saving skills, creating a pathway to future EMT certification by allowing them to take ambulance shifts alongside EMS Crews.
