WESTPORT — A 33-year-old man faces several charges — including driving under the influence — after he was pulled over for speeding on Post Road East earlier this week, police said.

Maciej Zalewski, of Bridgeport, was charged Aug. 21 with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving an unregistered vehicle and traveling unreasonably fast.

Zalewski was pulled over about 1:15 a.m. Aug. 21 by an officer for driving a Ford van faster than the posted speed limit, according to the police report.

The officer could smell alcohol on Zalewski’s breath, and reported that his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot, police said.

When asked to take a field sobriety test, police said Zalewski was unable to perform the test to standard.

He was placed under arrest at the scene, and refused to take a Breathalyzer test at Police Department headquarters, according to the report.

He later was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Aug. 31 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
