WESTPORT — A driver whose car struck another vehicle on Kings Highway North last month has been charged with driving under the influence after a toxicology test later revealed he was impaired by drugs at the time of crash, police said.
Daniel Lopez, 60, of Bridgeport, was charged Aug. 21 with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving without a license and following too closely.
A two-car accident was reported about 9:50 p.m. July 12 on Kings Highway North at Edge Hill Lane.
Officers dispatched to the scene determined the vehicle driven by Lopez caused the crash, according to the report, and also noticed that he “was acting erratically.” He was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
Since drug paraphernalia was reportedly found in Lopez’s car, police secured a warrant to obtain results of his toxicology tests from the hospital, according to the report.
Those tests indicated Lopez was driving while under the influence of narcotics at the time of the accident, police said.
A warrant for the arrest of Lopez was issued and he turned himself in at Police Department headquarters on Aug. 21.
He was released after posting $7,500 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 29 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
