WESTPORT — Blustery overnight winds — clocked at 50-plus mph by area trackers — knocked down trees and power lines locally, shutting down several roads and triggering power outages.

As of 5 a.m. Thursday, power was disrupted to 70 Westport customers, according to Eversource.

Police reported early Thursday that traffic is detoured around several sites where trees and power lines were felled by the storm. The alert advises motorists the avoid these areas indefinitely while emergency repairs are carried out by utility crews:

15 Partrick Road, 119 Hillandale Road and 30 Prospect Road.

255 Wilton Road, initially was closed, but police reported it was reopened to traffic shortly after 5 a.m. when utility crews cleared the area.

Winds that brought down trees and power lines late Wednesday and early Thursday were measured around the region at between 45 and 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
