WESTPORT — The death of Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Services Crew Chief Mark Blake on Tuesday is being mourned by EMS, police and town officials.
Blake, 61, who began working the WVEMS in May 1990, was a representative for the Southwest EMS Council for more than a decade, and most recently, was the organization’s president. He also was a certified child safety seat instructor and helped organize numerous car safety seat clinics throughout Fairfield County.
Blake also was a volunteer with the Weston Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services for more than 30 years. During that time, Blake served as the department’s vice president and attained the rank of lieutenant.
Blake “was an incredibly dedicated public servant as well as a widely respected EMT and he never hesitated to put the needs of others above his own,” Westport Deputy Police Chief Sam Arciola, who oversees WVEMS, said in a statement Wednesday.
First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker added, “I was saddened to hear of the passing of Crew Chief Blake. On behalf of the town, I want to extend my condolences to his friends and family, as well as express how appreciative the town is for all his years helping our community.”
