WESTPORT — After a string of burglaries from vehicles Saturday — in late afternoon and early evening — police again are warning people to lock their cars and remove items that could be targeted by emboldened thieves.

All of the burglarized vehicles were unlocked, according to a statement issued Monday by police.

The four incidents were reported in various parts of town, police said.

In issuing this latest warning to keep vehicles locked, police noted the Saturday thefts unusually took place during daylight hours and not overnight as typically is the case.

Over the last year, Westport police on several occasions have issued advice about keeping vehicles locked to prevent a range of crimes, which included stealing items left in a car to the theft of vehicles themselves.

The Saturday incidents remain under investigation by local detectives, police said Monday, but no arrests have been reported.

Police, in addition to underscoring the importance of keeping vehicles locked, said “bring your keys/fobs inside [and] remember to take valuables out of your car, such as cash, purses, wallets and electronics.”

Anyone who sees a vehicle being burglarized is urged to report it to police immediately.
