Following are recent letters submitted to the Westport Journal in support of candidates running in the Nov. 8 elections.

Dear Westport voters,
If you care about climate change and the environment, you must vote for Jonathan Steinberg on Nov. 8.
He is one of the most effective and respected legislators in Hartford. He does his homework, he listens and he advocates for issues important to Westport, particularly the environment.
As Westport’s former state representative and later as chairman of the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters, I know how challenging it is to successfully pursue a policy agenda in Hartford.
Jonathan, better than most, is successful at his craft. He has earned “Champion Status” from both the Sierra Club and the Connecticut League for his good work.
He has my full confidence that with your vote, he will continue his important efforts to address climate change and to protect Connecticut’s drinking water, air, rivers, coastline and wildlife.

When considering the candidates for the upcoming 26th Senate District, the differences between Ceci Maher and Toni Boucher could not be more illuminating.
Like most of the country, many of Connecticut’s residents face rising gas prices, soaring inflation and rampant crime. Sure, there are some that are wealthy enough to weather these problems, but most Connecticut residents cannot.
Faced with these voter concerns and the likelihood that voters are willing to vote for change, Ms. Maher does what all progressives do, she gives lip service to those issues and then runs a scare campaign against Ms. Boucher arguing that if Ms. Boucher is elected, Connecticut’s gun laws, women’s reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ rights will be repealed.
Since the entire state government is controlled by the Democratic Party, we all know that is little more than nonsense.
What all of Connecticut’s residents need, especially those that are the least fortunate, is a voice in Hartford for a return to sanity and a voice that will focus on the real issues that Connecticut’s residents face every day. That voice is Toni Boucher. Please vote for her on election day!

Because Character Matters: Why you should vote for Ceci Maher to be your next Connecticut State Senator.
We live in very turbulent times. There are two very different competing visions for America’s future.
Ceci stands on the side of protecting your children. Not just in words, but in action. She helped run the “Sandy Hook Promise Foundation” in order to keep your children safe from gun violence. Ceci also ran Person-to-Person, which provides financial support to +25,000 of our friends and neighbors experiencing hardship right here in Fairfield County!
Ceci is trustworthy, empathetic, a problem solver, but most importantly, she is a person of strong moral character. She knows right from wrong. She knows how to help, and she gets the job done!
When you cast your vote on Nov. 8, you can vote with confidence that Ceci will serve your interests and priorities in Hartford. Ceci Maher is right for Fairfield County and right for Connecticut.
