Peter “Pete” Thomas Romano, age 70, of Westport, son of Joan Romano and Peter “PJ” Romano, died on Feb. 3, 2026, at Greenwich Hospital.

Pete was born at Norwalk Hospital on Aug. 8, 1955. Although he resided in Weston for many years, he was truly a Westport native. He attended Westport schools and then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Roger Williams University.

After completing his education, he began his lifelong career as a civil engineer, eventually becoming the principal/owner of Landtech in Westport, where he held that position for almost 30 years.

Pete was heavily involved and invested in the Westport Community. He led the Sons of Italy and Festival Italiano for many years and was a driving force in the Westport PAL, where he followed in his father’s footsteps, supporting youth athletics and always making sure the kids came first. “It’s for the kids” was and still is the motto. Pete devoted himself fully to local projects, including the Wakeman Town Farm, the Westport YMCA, and many of the athletic fields around town. He also dedicated countless hours in support of local causes such as Al’s Angels to provide for families in need.

Pete was consistently recognized as a leader in the community. He was an honoree at the Westport YMCA Faces of Achievement alongside his father, PJ, and was named an 06880 Unsung Hero. He also dutifully served Westport’s youth as Santa Claus for many years, whether it be at Longshore, the VFW, or by boat in Saugatuck Center.

Pete lived for hosting parties and entertaining others. He would make every celebration one to remember and often you would see him running around connecting people. He never missed an opportunity to hold the microphone. More than anything, Pete always showed up for the people in his life and would do anything to help a friend or stranger.

Pete was a devoted son, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his mother, Joan Romano; his daughter, Christen Romano Lert, and son-in-law Jordan Lert; his daughter, Mary Kate Romano; his sister, Pamela Gorman, and brother-in-law Robert Gorman; and two grandchildren, Olivia Lert and Roman Lert.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., meeting directly at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave. Westport. Interment will be private. A celebration of Peter’s life will be announced at a later date. Condolences in memory of Peter may be left online at www.hardingfuneral.com

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s name may be made to the Westport PAL online at westportpal.org or mailed to Westport PAL, P.O. Box 3222, Westport, CT 06880.
