Michael J. Hannan

Following is the obituary for MICHAEL J. HANNAN, submitted for the family by the Harding Funeral Home.

.   .   .

Michael J. Hannan, 56, of Westport, passed away on March 29, with complications of COVID.

He was a lifetime resident of Westport and graduated from Staples High School and the University of Massachusetts with a degree in urban forestry.

Michael has been a Connecticut licensed arborist for 30 years and was the mainstay of a family-owned business, New England Nurseries. His passion for trees and plant science was only exceeded by his dedication to his friends and customers.

To call Michael an avid fisherman would have been an understatement, to say the least. After his business priority was taken care of he would travel far and wide to fish, always catch and release. He made trips to South and Central America, Ireland and Alaska. Local trips to New York State were annual and he was a perennial sight on Long Island Sound. He was convinced the amount of fish caught was directly correlated to the time spent.

He was tenacious in all endeavors that he found of interest and had unwavering conviction in those areas. If you were a friend you were in a unique circle.

Michael is survived by his parents, Peter and Dolores Hannan; his sister, Kelly (John) Anzalone; a niece, Haley Humiston; nephews, Ryan, Connor Humiston, John JJ Anzalone. Michael had one uncle, two aunts and several cousins. He was also survived by his constant companion Blue. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be planned for the summer, somewhere by the water.
