Following is the obituary for MELVIN KATZ, submitted for his family by Sholom Chapel in Stamford.
______________________________
Melvin Katz, 92, of Westport, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning surrounded by his loving family after a blessedly brief illness.
He lived a full and vibrant life. The child of immigrants, Mel personified the American dream. He grew up under the protective eye of his big brother, Jerry. After graduating from Brooklyn’s Midwood High, he went on to Wesleyan University and then to the Harvard Law School.
Mel was universally regarded as a brilliant and joyous man. As he grew to become a dean of the New York Securities Bar over his long and storied legal career, Mel also pursued his many loves — most passionately classical music, his New York Giants and skiing with his friends and family.
Above all, Mel cherished his family. Mel is survived by his wife of 56 years and love of his life, Judy Katz; their children, Jonathan Katz and Melissa Kane and her husband Jon, and his two grandchildren George Kane and Lily Kane. He is also survived by his nieces Andy (Susan) and Patty (Eileen) and his grand-nephew, Harrison.
His was a long life well lived.
Services will take place at The Conservative Synagogue, 30 Hillspoint Road, on Tuesday, March 19, at 10:30 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sholom Chapel, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.
