
Edwin A. Audley, 87, of Winter Haven, Florida, and long-time resident of Westport, Connecticut, passed away on Sunday May 25, 2025 in Winter Haven.
Ed was born on February 24, 1938 in Norwalk, Connecticut to the late Harry and Ethel Audley. He graduated from Staples High School in 1955. Shortly afterward, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 1955 to 1958. Following his active duty, he continued his service in the Army Reserves as a Senior Aircraft Mechanic until 1962.
Ed joined the Westport Police department in 1961. In 1976, he was promoted to Sergeant, to Lieutenant in 1979, to Inspector in 1985 and to Captain (second in command) in 1990. He retired from the WPD in 1993. Ed founded the Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service in 1979. There, he served the community of Westport, becoming Emergency Medical Technician instructor in 1987 to help train new volunteer EMTs. Ed was the past president of the Winter Haven Rose Society.
Edwin leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth Audley of Winter Haven, Florida; his brother, Harry Audley, and Harry’s wife, Pat, of Connecticut; and his three daughters: Kimberly Audley of Arkansas, Susan Palmer and her husband, Mark, of Connecticut, and Victoria Audley of Connecticut. He also leaves four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday July 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Meeting Directly at Assumption Church 98 Riverside Ave. Westport.
