The Staples boys team celebrated with gusto in the second half Friday at Westhill. Reese Watkins’ strike broke a scoreless game, and proved to be all the Wreckers needed. They rode the goal – off Hunter Smith’s long throw, and Dylan Hoke’s assist – to a 1-0 victory in Stamford.

The Westporters’ win was keyed by offensive pressure from Watkins and Murilo Moreno, and stout defense by Smith, Jackson Hochhauser, Bruno Guiduli, Caleb Tobias and Ben Douglas. The entire team was needed once, when the Vikings had a free kick two yards from goal. Staples held firm, and cleared out of danger.
