WESTPORT — The school district’s music programs have hit a high note.

A “Best Communities for Music Education” 2023 designation has been given to local schools by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.

The citation, which Westport schools have received from the association annually since 2013, is one of 623 given to school districts across the nation.

The Best Communities Music Education designation “is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students,” according to a statement from the school district.

To qualify for the NAMM recognition, Westport school officials answered questions about funding for local music programs, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music programs.
