WESTPORT — With nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 identified in schools since Saturday, Supt. of Schools Thomas Scarice said he will provide daily updates during the week going forward.

“As mentioned in prior emails, we would move from weekly updates of new positive cases of COVID-19 to more frequent updates as needed,” he wrote to parents and staff in a Health & Safety Update email Wednesday evening.

“We will move to daily updates during the week to ensure timely information is received by the community,” he wrote.

Bedford Middle School and Greens Farms Elementary School each have three new cases reported since Saturday, while Kings Highway Elementary School, Saugatuck Elementary School, and Stepping Stones Preschool each reported one.

According to the most recent state figures available through the Westport-Weston Health District, Westport had an average of 18 cases in the first week of September.

According to the school district’s COVID-19 Dashboard, as of Wednesday there were 20 individuals in isolation with confirmed cases, while 122 staff and students were in quarantine.

“The (new) cases reported since Saturday all went through contact tracing protocol which allowed for limited quarantining of students,” Scarice wrote.

“Please remember that families are asked to report positive COVID-19 cases of students using our reporting voicemail or email,” Scarice wrote, adding that students with pending tests should be kept home until negative results are reported.

“This approach is critical in helping us minimize the potential for transmission in our schools,” he wrote.
