WESTPORT — A crop of budding photographers harvested honors in this year’s “Young Shoots” photography contest sponsored by the Westport Farmers Market.
The sixth annual contest was open to entries from photographers, five to 18 years old, taken at the weekly farm market. Partnering with the market were the Artists Collective of Westport and the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center.
There was a record number of photo submissions this year, which “captured the energy, beauty and delights of the Westport Farmers Market,” according to a press statement.
The framed entries were exhibited at a recent reception at Gilbertie’s Herbs and Garden Center, where contest winners in three age categories were announced.
Winners received cash prizes from the Drew Friedman Foundation, and art class certificates at MoCA Westport.
Judges were: Emily Laux, a photographer with the Artists Collective of Westport; Carole Erger Fass, the Westport Library’s art curator, and Ruth Mannes, executive director MoCA Westport.

15-to-18-year-old category
First prize: Alex Sod, for “Bifrost,” $100
Second prize: Calista Finkelstein, for “Heading Home,” $50
10-to-14-year-old category
First prize: Mirabelle Choe, for “Color Wheel,” $100
Second prize: Rachel Pontoriero, for “Fairy Stool,” $50
5-to-9-year-old category
First prize: Aaron Slomich, for “Sharpen Up,” $100
Second prize: Juliette Newshel, for “Tiny Tomatoes,” $50
