Editor’s note: the following is an opinion submitted by former Norwalk resident and current director of the Heart 2 Heart Foundation, Nellie Mann

On behalf of the Heart 2 Heart Foundation, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and deepest appreciation for the extraordinary dedication and generosity of Westporter Monica Chusid. As the Founder and Director, Rev. Nellie Mann, and President, Rebecca Chernet, we are honored to recognize Monica Chusid for more than twenty years of unwavering support for children in need in Connecticut and North Carolina.

Monica’s journey with us began through her initial connection with the Norwalk Police Department. From that first introduction, she became an invaluable friend and supporter, touching countless young lives through acts of kindness. Over the years, her donations of book bags, gift cards, toys, and more have brought hope, comfort, and smiles to children and families who need it most. Monica’s compassion and commitment have helped us fulfill our mission and reach further than we ever could alone.

We are especially grateful not only for her personal contributions but also for the generosity and support of her beloved family. Her mother, residing in New Jersey, has been a cherished part of this journey, and we thank her warmly for her encouragement and involvement. The love and unity within your family are reflected in the joy you help bring to others.

With deepest appreciation and warmest wishes,

Rev. Nellie Mann

According to the Heart 2 Heart Foundation, Reverend Nellie Mann has served as the founder and director of the Heart 2 Heart Foundation for more than 20 years. The board has included members such as Dr. Jeffrey A. Ingraham (Advisor), the late Ty Lee, Fifi Coon, Marsha Thompson (Secretary), and Rebecca Chernet (Vice President).

The release states: Each year, we distribute turkeys to families and hosted a Thanksgiving dinner open to anyone in need, including those experiencing homelessness. Our support reaches families from Connecticut to New York. Donations have come from Stew Leonard’s of Norwalk, families in Darien, and various local churches. Dr. Curtis contributed his renowned pulled pork, and both the Star Diner and Penny’s Diner supported our efforts.

Deacon John Dupree, Bruce Tomlinson, Dorothy Hall, and Dr. Jeffery Ingram consistently assisted with food donations from Calvary Baptist Church in South Norwalk. James Haygood and his brother from Stamford prepared meals for our pre-Thanksgiving luncheon, and we are grateful to Officer Holmes who allowed cadets to serve, as well as Debbie Dupree and her family.

We also thank the community of Norwalk for their ongoing participation. The Heart to Heart Foundation has given out toys at Christmas, with Monica Cusack continuing to help. Trinidad Lauren from California, Betty from Raleigh, NC, Melissa Joseph, and Trinidad have all played key roles, especially in wrapping gifts for children. Special thanks go to Rebecca for continuing toy distributions in Norwalk and to Marsha Thompson for her dedicated service as secretary. We remain deeply grateful to Monica and her family for their continued generosity through providing toys and gift cards.
