WESTPORT — Inspiring people to protect the environment will be the topic of a United Nations Day lecture Oct. 24 at the Westport Library.
Mary Evelyn Tucker, co-founder of the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology, will deliver the Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.
The program is sponsored by the United Nations Association of Southwestern Connecticut. Register to attend by clicking here.
“Reimagining Our Environmental Future Together” is the topic of Tucker’s lecture. Her talk will “address how to inspire people to preserve, protect and restore the earth community,” according to a publicity release.
The program also will draw on themes highlighted in Tucker’s award-winning film, “Journey of the Universe.” It will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
The late Ruth Steinkraus Cohen, who founded the area UN Association, helped to forge local ties with the United Nations and its officials. Programs planned over the decades to foster an understanding of the UN include the annual jUNe Day, when hundreds of United Nations officials and their families were hosted in Westport by residents.
