WESTPORT — Carving jack-o’-lanterns for Halloween can be a lot of creative fun. But it also can create a monster of a mess.

Earthplace to the rescue.

A pumpkin carving and painting workshop is planned at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the environmental center, 10 Woodside Lane.

Participants should bring their own pumpkins, and Earthplace will provide the carving and painting supplies needed to transform them into funny or fearsome jack-o’-lanterns.

A limited number of pumpkins also will be available to buy, according to event organizers.

And after all the carving and painting is done, leave the mess behind and Earthplace staff will use that pumpkin muck for compost or to feed the resident animals.
