WESTPORT–Bob DeVos will perform at the VFW Post 399 this Thursday, Aug. 13. The show is part of the Jazz at the Post series, which offers a new concert each Thursday, presented by the Jazz Society of Fairfield County.

This week’s show will feature Bob Devos on guitar, Roberta Piket on organ, Steve Johns on drums and Greg Wall on tenor sax.

The strings will be flying this Thursday night at The Post as guitar master Bob DeVos rolls into town to support our Festival of August Guitars!, with  a program of tasty originals and Jazz masterpieces featuring an incredibly swinging and soulful band.

According to the release announcing the show, DeVos is an acclaimed guitarist, composer and bandleader. DeVos has enjoyed over 50 years as an in-demand player. With long, blues-drenched melodic lines and a horn-like approach, he has a signature style of groove and sophistication. From solo to big band, DeVos is a modern player with strong traditional roots, equally at home with straight-ahead jazz, blues, Rhythm & Blues, funk, Latin, and more. 

A new menu from Chef Derek Furino (Caesar salad, Chicken Marsala, Steamed Broccoli, Roasted rosemary baby Yukon potatoes and Fish of the day) will be served at 6:45 p.m. Reservations are not required.

Musical sets begin at 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. The 7:30 set cover charge is $20 ($15 for students / veterans). The cover fee for the late set is $10.

The Jazz Society of Fairfield County offers “free or low-cost concerts by accomplished artists, outreach to under-served audiences, and educational and performance opportunities for student, amateur and emerging professional musicians,” its website says.

Since 2015, the organization has worked with Post 399 to bring the weekly jazz event to the post’s home on the Saugatuck River, featuring “celebrated jazz artists such as Ethan Iverson, Antonio Hart, David Kikoski, Harvie S and Joe Farnsworth as well as introducing our audience to the new generation of musicians moving the tradition forward,” the society’s website says.
