SOUTHPORT — A husband and wife duo will visit the Pequot Library this weekend to present an evening of music from two master composers of the 18th century.
Rêves Musicaux will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12th. The program will feature cellist and viol player Caroline Nicolas and her husband, lutenist Kevin Payne.
The program will present works from French viol virtuosos Marin Marais and Antoine Forqueray. A 1740 essay by Hubert Le Blanc declares Marais’ playing “like an angel” and Forqueray “like the devil.” Nicolas’ program presents masterworks by both musicians as well as their influences.
Nicolas’ career has taken her around the world, with performances spanning works from the Middle Ages to present day. She is a fellow of The English Concert in America, winner of The Juilliard School’s Historical Performance Concerto Competition, and an educator. Her debut album was Pièces en solitude.
