WESTPORT–Pianist and two-time Grammy winner Alan Broadbent will perform at the VFW Post 399 this Thursday, June 18. The show is part of the Jazz at the Post series, which offers a new concert each Thursday, presented by the Jazz Society of Fairfield County.

The Los Angeles Times called Broadbent “one of the greatest living jazz pianists… Broadbent transcends simple comparisons to genres and styles. He’s truly a one-of-a-kind musician.”

The band joining Broadbent will include Harvie S on bass, Greg Wall on saxophones and Billy Mintz on drums.

According to the release, Broadbent is one of the most revered and distinctive voices in jazz today. Renowned for his lyrical touch, harmonic imagination, and masterful storytelling at the piano, Broadbent has earned international acclaim both as a performer–with jazz stars Charlie Haden, Woody Herman, Warne Marsh, Chet Baker and Lee Konitz–and as arranger / music director behind recordings by artists including Natalie Cole, Shirley Horn, and Diana Krall.

Dinner by Chef Derek Furino will be served at 6:45 p.m. The price is $25 and reservations are not required.

Musical sets begin at 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. The 7:30 set cover charge is $20 ($15 for students / veterans). The cover fee for the late set is $10. Tickets are available here.

The Jazz Society of Fairfield County offers “free or low-cost concerts by accomplished artists, outreach to under-served audiences, and educational and performance opportunities for student, amateur and emerging professional musicians,” its website says.

Since 2015, the organization has worked with Post 399 to bring the weekly jazz event to the post’s home on the Saugatuck River, featuring “celebrated jazz artists such as Ethan Iverson, Antonio Hart, David Kikoski, Harvie S and Joe Farnsworth as well as introducing our audience to the new generation of musicians moving the tradition forward,” the society’s website says.
