WESTPORT–A Fairfield woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after allegedly crashing in a parking lot and nearly getting into another accident Friday evening, Westport police said.

A witness reported seeing the motorist strike a chain link fence, concrete support structure and street sign in the parking lot of 100 Post Road East, about 7:15 p.m., police said. The motorist, later identified as Anais Marrero, 20, allegedly nearly struck another car while driving off, and was found later slumped over in the driver’s seat of her 2013 Nissan Sentra, parked awkwardly and unusually close to another vehicle, police said.

A piece of plastic from the Nissan was found at the accident scene, police said.

While police spoke with her, “she reportedly exhibited physical signs of intoxication and provided a different account of how her vehicle sustained damage,” an announcement from the police said. “Standardized field sobriety tests were administered and reportedly not performed to standard.”

At police headquarters, Marrero submitted to chemical breath testing, which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.1638 on the first test and 0.1518 on the second.

The legal limit for drivers under 21 years of age is .02.

Marrero was charged with evading responsibility and driving under the influence of alcohol while under 21 years of age. She was released without bail and is due in Superior Court in Stamford on April 17, court records show.
