GREENWICH — The Greenwich Historical Society will kick off its annual Winter Lecture Series this month, delving into the topic of how the people of the Cos Cob art colony helped shape the community.
The series, “Peopling Greenwich at America’s Centennial,” will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17th. The first lecture in the two-part series, entitled “The Holley House and Beyond: Cos Cob’s Artistic Community,” will be given by Amy Kurtz Lansing, curator of the Florence Griswold Museum in East Lyme.
The Winter Lecture Series will discuss the diverse range of individuals who came to the Holleys’ boarding house in Cos Cob around the time of the United States’ centennial. The Greenwich Historical Society says they represented “the wider cultural diversity of the United States at the turn of the 19th century and their lasting impact on our country’s culture.”
The series complements the Greenwich Historical Society’s newest exhibition, The Holley House: Inspiring American Impressionism, which will be on view through March 8th. Visitors can also sign up for an exclusive hour-long tour of this exhibition, which will take place before the lecture.
