
WESTPORT — A food drive benefiting two local food-assistance programs will take place Saturday at Stop & Shop supermarket, 1790 Post Road East.
Food donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20, organized by the Police Department, Westport Sunrise Rotary Club and Stop & Shop.
Food collected that day will be donated to Homes with Hope and the town’s Human Services Department, collaborating with the Westport Woman’s Club.
Police officers and volunteers will be on hand to collect the donations, and later distribute them to the local programs supporting people in need of food assistance.
Organizers are seeking donation of non-perishable foods (items in glass jars cannot be accepted) such as: applesauce, breakfast bars, boxed macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables and canned fruit.
Canned meat and fish, canned soup, stew and chili, cups of soups and ramen noodles, cereal, granola and protein bars and hamburger or tuna helper. Also, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup, pasta and tomato sauce.
And, peanut butter, jelly, rice, miscellaneous snacks and gluten-free foods like pasta, soups and cereal.
Hygiene items such as toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant also will be accepted.
